La Delicatezza

La Delicatezza Cocktail Bar in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote

If you want to experience a very special, creative and pleasant-tasting cocktail and a spectacular show as well, we recommend you to spend an evening in the Cocktail Bar “La Delicatezza” in Puerto del Carmen. The bar was established by Anthony Serra from Italy in 2013. He and his team have the philosophy to offer an impressive bar experience based on ingredients of high quality, a large variety of long drinks and cocktails and a bartender show surrounded by great music playlists. The Bartender juggles the blenders and bottles around his neck, above his head and through the bar in a professional artistic way. The preparation of a cocktail equals an entertainment show. Even the unique “special cocktails” are very entertaining. The decoration is elaborate and the taste is stunning. Many ingredients and syrups of the cocktails are homemade of fresh fruits and vegetables. But you can also have a lovely prepared virgin cocktail, one without alcohol, a long drink like a Gin Tonic or a beer for sure. Otherwise, you relax in this cocktail bar at the Avenida de Playas in Puerto del Carmen with a nice sea view and a good coffee in the afternoon. They also prepare a shisha for you, if you want. The cocktail bar La Delicatezza is definitively worth visiting.

It is hard to find a parking close to the cocktail bar, but even not very important due to the fact that the cocktails are very delicious.

Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote

Until the 1960s, Puerto del Carmen was a small fishing village in the southeast, which only had a few houses on today’s port area. In the direction of the airport there was a salt plant and otherwise only free area where it was difficult to grow fruit or vegetables. What the famous Playa Grande looked like in the 1960s can be seen very impressively here. Harbour in Puerto del Carmen Today Puerto del Carmen is the largest and most important tourist centre on the island of Lanzarote, with over 960,000 tourists a year (as of 2017, source tourismodeislascanarias.com). If you want the beach and nightlife as close to your door as possible, you should choose a holiday home in Puerto del Carmen. On a length of approx. 6 km you will surely find the suitable beach, in the evening the right restaurant and at night the best disco or bar. The largest beaches are Playa Grande, Playa de Los Pocillos and adjacent to the airport is Playa de Matagorda. There are various sports facilities, such as windsurfing, diving, sailing, deep sea fishing, boat trips and much more. Near the harbour is the beach Playa Chica, especially suitable for children, with diving school and boat trips next door. Slightly hidden, opposite the La Penita area, between Playa Grande and Playa de Los Pocillos, there are some other bathing opportunities that are not so easy to discover from the road and which are best explored on foot from Avenida de las Playas. On the Avenida de las Playas, one restaurant practically alternates with Centros Comerciales – Shopping Centers. In between you will find boutiques, supermarkets, amusement arcades, car rentals and of course also various souvenir and often rather junk shops. The Sunday market in Teguise or Saturdays in Haria are much better places to buy souvenirs. Above the Avenida, near the port, there is one of the largest and most modern shopping centres in Lanzarote, the “Biosfera-Plaza”, with free underground parking. At Zara, Mango, Bershka, Foot Looker etc. you can shop here to your heart’s content or visit the open air cinema with English and Spanish movies. . You can satisfy hunger and thirst in numerous restaurants with great views of the hustle and bustle and the sea. The port of Puerto del Carmen, also known as La Tiñosa from former times, is 5 minutes’ walk from Biosfera to the south. Here you will find fishing boats and excursion boats, numerous authentic fish restaurants and, especially at the weekend at late hours, lively bars invite you to linger. The restaurant Casa Roja, which was built in 1850 and served as a harbour camp until the 1950s, is particularly outstanding. From the port, a footpath leads along the cliffs of Puerto del Carmen towards Barranco del Quiquere and on to Puerto Calero, the nearest town further south with its marina.

The Ironman Lanzarote takes place in Puerto del Carmen in May every year. A must see event if you are on the island during the second half of May.

Playa Chica Beach

Playa Chica Beach in Puerto del Carmen, Lanzarote

Playa Chica Beach is a very calm and therefore a perfect beach for families and divers.

The Playa Chica beach is located very centrally in the former fishing village Puerto del Carmen. In high season it might not be very easy to find a parking space at the nearby car park, but  you can park your car just around the corner in any of the streets nearby..

The beach is only about 100 meters long and with about 20 meters of width, located in a small cove.

It consists mainly of sand, only here and there are some stones to be seen. Since the bay is protected by large rocks, the sea is very quiet all year round, which is why the beach is particularly popular with families, but also with the elderly people. The water, as well as the beach are very clean.

Especially divers appreciate the underwater landscape of this beach, which the volcanic lava flows have developed over the centuries, which is aswell one of the most spectacular in Europe.
The diving school “Safari Diving” offers diving courses for beginners and advanced.
But also the snorkeling is the inhabitants of the sea face. Above the water surface, there is also an extensive range of water sports: thanks to “Paracraft” banana boat, Jet Ski or Crazy Ufo can be practiced.

Puerto del Carmen is one of the tourist harbors of the island, which is why there are numerous hotels and holiday apartments around the beach. Directly on the beach is a small kiosk, where ice and drinks can be purchased. There is also a restaurant called “Restaurante Bar Playa”, where fish and seafood lovers will feel particularly welcome.

The Playa Chica Beach is very popular due to its varied offer and undoubtedly belongs to the favourite tourist beaches of Lanzarote.

Playa Chica Beach – Tide times and altitude

Playa Chica is the perfect place for families with children. The Beach is small, there is less wind and the ocean is relatively quiet.

Barranco del Quiquere Cliffs

Barranco del Quiquere cliffs

On the footpath between Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero, after about 1.5 km, this section called Barranco del Quiquere cliff is about 800 m long and offers secluded bays, sunbathing areas and hidden caves.
With a view of the neighboring Fuerteventura nature lovers, who like to swim or snorkel, can spend a wonderful time.
The Barranco del Quiquere area is also particularly popular with naturists.

Like mostly on the south-east coast, the Barranco del Quiquere usually has only a few waves.
From the top of the cliffs, a staircase and to the north and south other, more risky climbing passages are leading down to the water, where you can find and choose your quiet and  more or less hidden spot for your stay.

Entering the water partly is not very easy and the wearing of bathing shoes is rather recommended because of the occasional sea urchins. As the access to the sea, by climbing over rocks and gravel, is quite challenging, this bathing area is rather less suitable for handicapped people and for families with children.

To get to the Barranco del Quiquere by car, turn off the road between the villages of Puerto del Carmen and Puerto Calero after about 1.5 km on the unpaved road towards the sea.
At the end of the path, which after a heavy rainfall sometimes till it gets repaired seems quite risky to drive further, you will arrive at a parking lot, from where after a distance of about 200 meters you arrive above the cliffs.

From there, you can then look out  for your very special spot for your stay.

Divers find and like to use the ideal conditions at the Barranco del Quiquere, too.
Otherwise there is not much more at the Barranco del Quiquere. No sunbeds or umbrellas, no toilets, no trash bins and also no first aid station, only crystal clear water, pure nature and often also hardly other visitors awaits you there.

Don’t forget to bring your bathing shoes and your drinks and your food
