Dulces bestias – contemporary dance

Dulces bestias – contemporary dance

Compañía Nómada brings the contemporary dance piece Dulces Bestias (Sweet Beasts) to Jameos del Agua Auditorium, recent winner of five Canary Islands Performing Arts Replica Awards in 2018, the best performance of the year according to these awards.

Dulces Bestias reflects on the animal aspects humans have inherited, using animal attributes to transcend its own condition and overcome difficulties posed by nature. Roberto Torres, director and choreographer of the show, explains that, “today we’re living in a noise and asphalt jungle, with other “sweet beasts”…and we somehow yearn for a nature we are part of, and that we seem to be parting with more and more every day”.

The fur costumes designed by Yaiza Pinillos, Nature represented by Samuel Aguilar’s music, lighting by Grace Morales, and the “beasts” played by Paula Quintana, Daniel Morales and Paloma Hurtado, expressing their animality as they show their humbleness when faced with Nature itself.

The music, composed and performed by Samuel Aguilar,  also aims to connect with nature and become a metaphor of its sounds that are becoming more and more forgotten and unknown.

Ínsula Inédita in Cueva de los Verdes

Ínsula Inédita in Cueva de los Verdes

The air as artistic element and the enveloping active sounds of the volcanic tube itself in Cueva de los Verdes emerge in Ínsula Inédita. The content of this show consists of newly created pieces by Canarian composers with an international background like Carlos González, Víctor Barceló and Carmen Ojeda, and is the result of a long evolution of thought, art and technology applied to musical creation.

Ínsula inédita is a staging of the natural spaces and soundscapes of the island, as well as a performance that combines artistic and sound elements, with experimental electronic music pieces.

Up on stage, the flautist and composer Carmen Ojeda, outstandingly brings the piece to the stage for audiences to watch musical symbols live where the flute is used as a metaphor of the Cave in itself.
